Yeah lizzle i played wow from beta to now - bought cat and could only stand playing it for about an hour... same whore different colored dress. Rift is a new whore that will only remind you of the old one because they have the same job - but her walk, talk, and ride is new and actually fun. There is definitely PvP - we all just joined the server rush was on which was PvE - but even on there we had some PvP. I hate comparing it to wow but I think the pvp system is very similar to that - you have your world pvp then battlegrounds (which theyre releasing in tomorrows beta!) So I'm sure I'll have feedback on that come next week. I dunno I've become so anti-mmo over the years I'm actually a little shocked how much I liked this game and how much I am looking forward to tomorrow's beta sesh. I gave a couple people keys that I never saw ingame - I should check if they plan on using their acct or would let someone else suckle the rift teet for the weekend...

Oh and if anyone does think they will buy it who isnt in the beta - if you preorder it you will get to play the rest of the beta events + you get to start playing the full game like a week before its release (rel. date 3/1/2010)

Just a little follow up - ROK and I hit 20 this morning (which is the level cap for this stage of the beta... which sadly ends today  .sigh. ) and coming from someone who played wow for many years (since beta... fkin warcrack) so far I absolutely LOVE the game. I knew basically nothing about RIFT when I got the beta keys for us other than it was an mmo... and let me tell you I was ready to be disappointed. OOOH boy was I wrong. Now that I've played and have a somewhat firm grasp of how the game works, I wanted to break down a little bit of why I looooooove what I have seen so far and actually think this game is a thousand times more than just another WoW knock off. And I'm jacking some of this from a site because if I tried to explain it I would make it sound bad.

1. CLASS SYSTEM = WTF AWESOME

There are four classes(Warrior, Cleric, Roge, Mage) with 32 different soul trees in total. Each attuned soul grants players access to a unique "Soul Tree," which contains all of the traits and abilities that a soul had mastered during its life. As your character levels up, you earn soul points that can be used to improve that tree's soul level, granting players access to even more powerful traits and abilities. Every class can choose soul trees with 3 grouping at most each time. So if you're a Warrior for example, the soul trees you could choose from would be Champion, Reaver, Paladin, Warlord, Paragon, or Riftblade - and you can mix and match points from any of those 3 trees how you want. This is what a warrior who chose Paladin, Reaver, and Champoin would see:



Section A & B:
Players invest their soul points into the branches of the Soul Tree, picking and choosing the specific abilities and passive traits they desire. With each point spent, the Soul Tree increases in level, periodically unlocking new advancement options higher up the tree.

Section C:
Players automatically unlock new "root" abilities as the Soul Tree increases in level. If the branches represent the unique choices a player makes, the root represents the core power of the soul that all players have access to. Root abilities unlock quickly at first, but slow down as the tree's soul-level increases.

Section D:
Leveling will unlock the ability to attune additional souls. A maximum-level player will be able to attune up to three souls of their choosing!

Section E:
It will show the spend and left points.You can get 1 point when level up. Level between 49 to 50 can get 2 points when level up. There are 51 points can be depensed in total.

This system is fkin awesome. I'm leveling a cleric with the souls Purifier, Sentinel, and Warden and have re-specced (i dont know what they call it in RIFT) probably close to ten times and every time its like playing a completely different class. Plus they allow you to buy multiple specs from the get go so you can switch all over the place  - it seems like they really want classes to have all the flexibility they could possibly want and IMO it fucking works. So far I give the class system 2 huge thumbs up - and I'm only level 20!

2. RIFTS MAN FKIN RIFTS

By level 10 that's all you're thinking about. GET TO THE RIFTS. Well first let me tell you wtf a Rift is (best description i have found): Rifts are open-world content where invaders from the various elemental planes (Fire, Water, Earth, Air, Life, and Death) that revolve around repelling the invaders. Rift events begin with tears, which can open to form rifts, which can spawn invasions (see 3. INVASIONS!) But the best part is, these are dynamic content – if a Rift is left alone for a while, one of that plane’s lieutenants will emerge and actually make a “stronghold” in an area, bringing more and more invaders from that plane into play. These strongholds can even take over quest hubs, rendering them unusable until you defeat the lieutenant and repel the invasion. So imagine you're chillin with your homies questing then all of a sudden WTF shit starts popping out of the ground and a cool looking tornado spinning thing appears and everything around you completely changes how it looks - well thats pretty much a rift. Each rift have a level too so if you're in the right zone for your level - you'll prob get rifts spawning mobs your level. Completing any/all of the stages of a rift even will land you with these blue balls that I cant remember the name of - but you buy gear with them. And finding rifts in zones was designed perfectly as well - when they come about they appear on your map including the rift type and level - this way you dont run for 20 min to a level 8 rift when youre level 18! And its awesome people just hop into groups and run around to all the rifts on a map together - and even if other people are there you still get credit for helping out. If you hate questing... you can go rifting instead. Pictures dont do these fun events justice so here ya go:

3. INVASIONS!

Pretty much what it sounds like - a bunch of baddies who leave the rift in a group and will not hesitate to bend you over backwards if they see you on the side of the road and rape you to no end... but again you get those little blue balls to buy gear. We got lucky last night and I think they were stress testing the servers or something because there were probably 30+ invasions all at one time and you were literally getting 400-800xp every minute or two. But invasions are another fun thing to kill with your new group of rift farming buddies - and if you don't deal with them... they will take over your town/zone and set up a foothold which will spawn even MORE invasions. Good times all around.

4. Back to Rifts BC They ARE That Fkin Cool

So you complete a rift and you get the blue balls I keep mentioning - but what is very cool about how the balls are dispersed (which I thought this was how it worked and confirmed it by reading about it this morning). Players receive rewards directly for combating rifts and earn contribution via effort for "doing stuff to help win the rift", including healing, buffing, holding aggro, and dealing damage; effort will be adjusted by a player's level so a higher level player will not always contribute more than a lower-level player. The more contribution a player has, the better his rewards will be; the level of rewards are scaled to the level of the rift. The best rewards are obtained from the unstable stages of a rift, which get players "into higher contribution categories"; more players are needed to "finish all the unstable stages". Major rifts, which spawn naturally as opposed to being opened by players, offer better rewards. NO MO NINJA'S! Well... from rifts at least - they DO have dungeons as well.

Another interesting thing I came across is rifts scale according to the number of people fighting them: A rift event is designed to be scaled to the number of players taking part in the event: rifts will scale from being soloable to being balanced for a raid force. There is a benefit to grouping with others to close a rift. Additionally, a rift that opens on its own it will be more difficult than one opened by a player. The level of a rift is also most likely to scale with the level of the mobs in the area in which the rift appears (well duh... or id hope so at least). 5. The Interface is Like Puddy

No. Seriously. The way you can edit the interface in this game makes you wonder why the fuck it hasnt been automatically implemented in every MMO... its like puddy. Basically from the ingame menu you choose edit layout and BAM - every single thing is moveable and scalable. You dont have to go find addons to move your map - the game will let you move it anywhere and make it any size. And let me TELL YOU about the key binding - no more guessing what you put on bar 3 slot 8 anymore - from that same menu you click on edit keys then just mouse over the button and press the key.

Yeah - they went there. Its like they thought of everything we all wanted to make playstyle perfect for each person and just... did it. Well... except allowing you to bind the mouse scroll wheel but I cant have everything (and im still hoping they change that).


ALRIGHT I WILL WRAP IT UP...

The devs really seem like they made RIFT from the gamers perspective - and for being the 3rd part of a closed beta I am absolutely blown away by the quality of the game, the complete lack of bugs that I have seen, and just the entire different feeling that this game gives you when you play it. Yeah it's still an MMO - yeah there are a hell of a lot of things that are JUST LIKE WOW - but the amazing customization of characters + fkin fun ass world with random rifts and invasions = an almost definite purchase by me when it's released. Even if its pay to play - hell I could see myself paying to play it now and its still in beta! But anyways... thats my hour long ordeal on RIFT - and for people who got beta keys after this beta started I am pretty sure there are going to be 3 more closed beta's so watch your email - you could be playing with us!! And sorry I had so much to say... I just haven't really enjoyed a new game like this in years - and I'm raaaaaaaavin about it.

Biggest news of the week(s) - when you google TF2 jump now we appear on the FIRST PAGE!! 2 days ago you couldnt even pull the site up by googling tf2jump.com - so im very excited we're in there now!

For those of you who skip over the website and just bookmark to the forums, the website is fully functional with the exception of the map stats (gangbang rush for that...). You can find all the servers listed in the forums under servers with the little gametracker updates (except the ones gametracker didn't recognize), and every page displays the 3 main servers (Jump iT, ChiLL0uT-Z0nE, and #AusJump) along with their current player list. Videos goes right to the YouTube page because... well thats what rush wanted 

Chat right now just links to the jumpit irc channel. We can have it connect to multiple channels if there are other ones you guys would want jumpers to join, or if you dont want to hassle them with joining multiple channels we can make it so they select the server they want to connect to. I think I'm going to add a bit of instructions to that page too as i have seen people join with the default mumble name and not even realize they can change it 

The jump help section needs just what it says - HELP. I linked up the current soldier videos and demo video (notice theres no "s" at the end of demo video). I really think this site could thrive as a jumping knowledge base for people just starting, as well as people who have been jumping for a long time. A lot of you motherfuckers are disgustingly good - so if you have videos/tutorials/tips/etc. we can put in there I know people will use it. If you build it they will come...

Overall I think the site will really grow as there is no single site focused on tf2 jumping like this out there (that I have seen so far...) and the more we can give, the more we will get back. So with that intro out of the way - we need ideas: what do you want to see/what should we add/what looks like shit/ANYTHING ELSE. I'm out of ideas and as of next week I will actually have to start working at work again so I cant devote tooo much time... I'm glad we got the framework for the site in place at least! So TELL US WHAT YOU THINK!

For those saying "who the fuck is klanana?" You dont know me - you'll never hear of me from jumping or any of your cool pro leagues - I'm just a big fan of jumping who wanted to give back to the people who entertain me nightly and let me talk shit to them... even though I don't jump. So my thanks was making this dinker little website (minus the forums) and trying to make it the best it could be. Thanks for letting me share in your excitement and frustration as you jump and fail at jumping in TF2.
