Hardest map to speedrun:

All of them since the timers don't ever work.

Easiest amp to speedrun:

n/a

Jokes, man. Jokes.

Seriously though I think the list is pretty accurate. I'd re-order some maps personally but that's just me being better at certain types of jumps than others. Example being that I would set jump_ring as being harder than it is -- that last jump is nearly a guaranteed fuck up if you're trying to speed run it.

Surf iT / SuSurf iT / Re: Surf Timer?

Just a simple question, a yes or no answer would suffice.

Is the timer plugin that SurfiT uses publicly available for sourcemod?

As far as I know it was written specifically for the surfit/susurfit servers and hasn't been released.

Was playing this for the first time today and it's kinda fun but super buggy. I got stuck at #15, wasn't sure what to do. Seemed like you couldn't get enough speed off either the walls or the ground.

The only obscure thing about sticky jumping is that when you do an airpogo straight up, you want to NOT CROUCH after the initial sticky. (Well you can but it makes the timing a shitload harder)

Other than that, it's all timing.

General Discussion / Re: What mouse do you use?
« on: August 26, 2012, 05:45:06 PM »
Mouse -- DeathAdder

Keyboard -- Arctosa

Headset -- Carcharias

Razer fanboy, checking in. The arctosa I could live without -- it's nothing special although the macro functionality is pretty good. But I swear by the DeathAdder and Carcharias. My mouse broke recently after three years and I promptly went and bought another one without even looking at other options.

b4nny's team all had iT at the end of their names. Is this a jump iT shoutout? Was this known to everybody except me already?

EDIT: I just saw this.

Fun little map. Didn't see any glaring issues. Super easy obviously but that's OK.

I see quite a lot of comp players on Jump it, signficantly more so right before/after the typical  9~12 scrim times.  Looking at the speedrun leaderboards as a reference now and I guess the best of the best on jump it typically don't. I realize its not the best metric as I can think of a few real strong jumpers that don't give any fucks about speedruns, but it's something.

Yeah... lot of the best don't ever do speedruns unfortunately. Also speedruns have been mostly broken for months...

I'm #7 on the speedrun charts but in terms of actual skill I'm sure I'm not even in the top 25.

Bounce and surf in jump maps will earn you a 1 way ticket to my anger. Soar, (duey or who or both...), baqu and 4starters are currently at the top of the list.

I'm with you on the weird bouncing crap, but surf is another story. <3 the surf jumps on baqu.

Been told many times that walljumping with W is wrong, and you see all them new jumpers try to do so. Might as well call jump1 scrubjumping. Or lazyjumps.
I think (hope) people only say that because new jumpers tend to try to airstrafe with W and it doesn't work. If you understand how airstrafing works, then there is nothing any different about W (or S) then A or D. It can make certain jumps easier, like the ones demonstrated in the first video. I myself use a variant of that for long left wall jumps. I look about 135 degrees back, hold W and D, and hold M1. It's not perfect (you need to look further forwards when you start going fast), but it's very easy and works pretty well for most of these jumps. A lot easier than trying to flick 135 degrees back and forth while alternating A and D.

Pro tip for left wall jumps: the way I do it is (using the default rocket launcher) start with a normal jump at about a 45 degree angle to get some height and some forward momentum, then just looks straight at the wall, a little bit up from straight down, and hold w and m1. Actually works surprisingly well. I can pass the long wall on raiin's BRAINFARTONMAPNAME_2 (Edit - Ayers2, shortly before end of detail), the sort of hell looking hall, every time down the left side using this method.

There's also the same non-stick wall vertical pogo later on in jump_ice. And probably other maps.
