General Discussion / airpogoing in competitive?
« on: November 25, 2013, 10:55:03 AM »
this is only slightly related to jumping, but do you think airpogoing as demo is viable? I think you're left with around 55 health without a buff, so with a full buff you would be left with 140 health.

on the process rollout you can airpogo to gain momentum up the second ramp, but this isn't always necessary.

General Discussion / Maps designed with speedrunning in mind?
« on: November 20, 2013, 10:17:06 AM »
So after trying out jump_orbital and seeing the speedruns of it I noticed how the map includes elements to it that encourage speedrunning (the ramp slides for example and it being continuous instead of using teleports in between jumps). I was wondering whether you prefer maps that are devoted to speedrunning, or maps that don't include any speedrunning elements at all, or do you prefer a mix of the two?

Jump Help / downward wallpogo into upward wallpogo and vice versa
« on: October 28, 2013, 05:11:29 AM »
can someone explain which keys I should be pressing for wallpogos where you have to go up and down. I'm stuck on jump 5 of the d course in 4starters and I can barely make any progress. how do you control your height? I can only ever seem to go up or down, not at a set level.

EDIT: um I just did jump 5, but I think it was luck.

General Discussion / favourite JOTW/ROTW
« on: October 14, 2013, 02:36:51 PM »
so we've almost hit the year mark on the old JOTW and ROTW and I was wondering which JOTW or ROTW you liked best. I liked JOTW 8 (because it inspired 31, the one I was in) and ROTW 11 the best.

JOTW 8:
JOTW #8 - DAoliHVAR & Chris on pl_upward

ROTW 11:
ROTW #11 - EXC0 on jump_bigbutt_b1 course 3

Mapping Tutorials / timed teleport
« on: October 05, 2013, 12:22:39 PM »
how can I make a timed teleport? so once you land on a block after a few seconds it will teleport you to the start again. I need this for a skip jump.

New Maps / jump_ballin WIP
« on: October 05, 2013, 11:06:06 AM »
so the idea of this map is that each stage will be a bball court (from ctf_ballin_sky) where you need to use different jump techniques to get to the other side. it's intended for soldier and it should be around easy difficulty. this should be fully finished by christmas time.

In my opinion I think that the pogo on 8 is disproportionately hard compared to the other jumps and really there just aren't enough jumps in the map.

here's a download:
this version includes 8 finished jumps (the last one is unfinished).

rocket launcher

pros
-more people use the rl, meaning it's easier to compare rocket jumping (wallpogos for example)
-you might be more used to the way it shoots
-you might like the sound better
-all the other rocket launchers function the same (excluding stats)
-free
cons
-when shooting you have to take into account that your rockets come from the right, but I've found you get used to that
-obstructs view

original

pros
-rockets come out the center of the screen making airshotting a bit easier
-you might be more used to the way it shoots
-you might like the sound better
-doesn't obstruct your view
cons
-it's the only rocket launcher that functions differently (excluding stats)

Weapon Demonstration: Original

I've definitely left something out, but these are all the arguments I could think of. Basically it's all about which you prefer. One won't make you better, it's just about getting used to the one you like most.

Whatever / tr_walkway jump help
« on: September 02, 2013, 06:22:06 AM »
so I'm trying to do this jump on tr_walkway that involves the bots, but when I put sourcetv on (with tv_enable 1) the bots don't spawn. I've seen people do jump videos with the bots on and they're able to use sourcetv, how do they do it?
