General Discussion / IU Lan, October 19-20

http://iugaming.com/events

Anybody near Bloomington, IN should check out this LAN next week. I've gone 7-8 times and it gets better every time. There are currently about 300 people signed up for it, costs $20 to get in and that includes dinner (pizza and subs), breakfast (donuts, juice, and coffee) and 24 hours of straight gaming. Tournaments with cash or gear prizes include TF2, LoL, SC2, and DOTA2, and there are servers running of all sorts of games to jump in and out of.

And, I'll likely be going out drinking with some guys the Friday beforehand if anybody's interested in that let me know.  :P

That's pretty cool. Can you explain what changing the (now-defunct) cvar sv_airaccelerate does to the equations?

This is the script I have.

http://pastebin.com/NDked7pA

Not sure what part of it is causing the issue since not even the alias with /reset would work properly and instead just put it out in chat.

I'm not an expert and haven't tested any of this but a couple things to try:

1. use say instead of say_team for the commands
2. Rename the /s and /t variables, it may work but as somebody used to other programming languages there ar e many where that wouldn't work.
3. Instead of the say commands, try sm_s, sm_t, sm_reset, etc. (e.g. "alias reset sm_reset")

I have a pair of the MDR-V6 I use with my keyboard. The sound on them is pretty incredible, I recommend.

Bball iT / Re: Server laggy, admin gone

Wouldn't that just screw up the ping, we're talking about some bug when a player spawns and it just destroys everyones fps for a few seconds.

Which has been happening for a few months, not just since a DDOS recently.

Oh, I dunno then. The other servers have been having ping issues, assumed bball was the same.

So here's the deal (and this goes for all iT servers except for SuSurf and EU):

We use NFO servers, which in turn are physically located in the InterNAP Chicago datacenter. To quote a post from the NFO server status page:

Quote
A customer in Chicago was hit with an extremely large DDoS attack at approximately 9pm CDT tonight. This attack overwhelmed Internap's infrastructure in Chicago and caused heavy packet loss. The customer being hit has now been null-routed.

We ordered an upgrade in Chicago early this month to add another 10 Gbps circuit there, which should help with attacks like this one by spreading out the load among more Internap routers. We've been anxiously awaiting its installation and hope they complete it soon.

This is just the first report, there have been repeated massive DDoS over the past week.

Basically, somebody has been getting heavily DDoSed and it's affecting everybody using NFO and even some others at InterNAP. Nothing much we can do about it.

Saxton, [pfN] big blue, elfman, redc, these are the most active surfers and they have been around a while. These guys all play mostly on SurfiT but once in a blue moon they can be seen on JumpiT. I dunno who are the active ones in SuSurfiT. I also surf a ton ;P

I keep forgetting big blue isn't an admin. He should be.

:>

I just got GTA V though so I'm taking a temporary hiatus from surfing/mapping.

Please don't hate me

I hate you.

Sourcemod Information / Re: Disabling caps on linux servers
« on: September 27, 2013, 04:42:01 PM »
Something else you could try is modifying the plugin to hook teamplay_round_start also. Maybe the arena_round_start event isn't firing or only depends on arena mode:

HookEvent("teamplay_round_start", Event_ArenaRoundStart, EventHookMode_PostNoCopy);

You can recompile it here after editing it: http://www.sourcemod.net/compiler.php

This would still rely on sm_cap_auto_arena 1 in server.cfg

I modified it to hook teamplay_point_startcapture and that worked (and just deleted the if statement since we always want it on). The roundstart still didn't. But at any rate it works now. ^^

Trust me you are not magically going to figure out whats going wrong on susurf / surf EU with the cap disable - its like people dont believe me that I tried for weeks and have literally done anything and everything that SHOULD work. I know the map with the biggest issues was derpis - which i did not put on the EU server since I knew there would be a shortage of admins for a while. The admin list from susurf was copied to EU so in case you didnt know... if you have admin on susurf you also have it on surfit eu - Surf iT *SHOULD* also have the same admin list...

I do not like setting people up with admin on 1 single server as I already cant keep track of who has power where... so for the most part admin is given to someone for all of those types of servers (surf / jump / etc) and I know we need some helping hands around the surf servers.

So heres the deal - nominate people who you think would be good for admin and what server they play on the most - that way I dont get a bunch of people voting for themselves. Start nominating surf heads!

ObliviousB plays on susurf all the time, which imo is the server with the greatest admin need. Would be my nomination.

Thought I would ask here:

We have a plugin to disable captures (specifically this one http://forums.alliedmods.net/showthread.php?p=1327225) and it works perfectly on Windows server, but not on Linux server. The command sm_cap_disable is in 3 places: autoexec.cfg, server.cfg, and as a test an individual map.cfg and none of them appear to execute when the map loads. However, typing the command in console works fine.

Wat do? Anybody know?
