General Discussion / Re: Opinions on 'W' Strafing
« on: June 14, 2013, 04:12:56 PM »
Since you don't see where you're going it would be just gimmicky to do surf maps and jump maps like that, you might as well be surfing backwards if you want it to be absurdly hard, I don't see why it should be impossible though.

I do not play competitively but I imagine it could be quite useful for roamers when bombing a medic or something. Just like you said, you are less predictable that way AND you can follow a helix trajectory while facing inward.

Also, (I am not sure about this but) backwards ground speed is lower than sideways or forward speed in TF2 IIRC so strafing with S is less effective than any other key. Is this correct?

Jump Help / Re: [Question] Pogo into Wallclimb
« on: April 16, 2013, 04:23:03 PM »
If you're getting propelled away from the wall you want to climb, you're aiming too high. The method you describe seems right although you did not mention holding 'W' to stay close to the wall (which you need to do additionally to tapping 'D'). To get the right aiming angle the best thing to do would be to watch other people do it in first person I guess.

The thing about going into pogo from a higher platform is pretty much just practice. On some maps you will need just one rocket to get down, on some two or even more. If its not too high and one rocket is sufficient, the angle shouldn't be too important compared to the timing, but similar to the angle for climbing.

The higher the starting platform is however, the more you have to do a "real" wallpogo, and climbing down a wall is a tough skill to master and takes lots and lots of practice.

Yup, same problem here aswell. Used to be pretty fast like its only checking the files every time i connect. Now it seems its actually downloading the files each time and it takes ages.

New Maps / Re: Jump_Shunix_a2

Pretty good update. I really like the start with the slopes that you can use to get more speed.
I was able to do the speedshot without a catch after a couple of tries, so it seems fine to me.

Difficulty curve might be a bit steep idk. but it is fun so far.

You can still cheat last though. You can still strafe around avoiding the triple, and don't even have to land the double right away since the glass panels and horizotal bars next to them aren't illusionary.

General Discussion / Re: A homage to jumping in cs 1.6
« on: May 06, 2012, 05:16:37 PM »
I was a huge fan of surfing in CSS and after that I dabbled a little bit in jumping in 1.6. It's crazy how hard it is (I never was really good at it, ~245 unit jumps at best couldn't even perfom a countjump), but after I got some basics down I had a blast playing Hide'N Seek. That mod was really awesome.

I was so disappointed when I found out TF2 caps your speed after you jump to your class limit, but I guess its for the best.

Also, I'm really glad to have found out about rocket jumping aaand hello TF2jump.com community :)
