Jump Help / Re: Question(s?) about Ctap

What is the ideal difference to aim for a ctap? Say, a vertical rj, vs a ctap vertical rj. Assuming the ctap was done perfectly, z being the height value of a normal rj, z+x for ctap, what would x be?

So basically it's used only in single jumps(or as a starting jump)? What about walljumps and synchs? Wallclimbing? The starting jump for a speedpogo? And do I still need to hold crouch as I skip?

Jump Help / Question(s?) about Ctap
« on: August 27, 2012, 09:13:01 PM »
I need to get this cleared up. I usually jump without ctap, but wanted to learn it for so long. The ctap tut was okay, but wasn't clear enough for me. Here are some of the questions:

  • What are the exact keypresses when doing a ctap?
  • Can I use a bind for ctap?
  • Do I need to hold crouch throughout the whole jump after doing the ctap(bear in mind I still don't know how to do it)?
  • Does demo-jumping need ctapping?

More questions when I have them.

Cheers.

General Discussion / What mouse do you use?

I'm using this:

and frankly, I'm getting calluses on my palm.

Any suggestions for my next mouse?

Oh, and which jumping do you think would give me carpal tunnel?

Just learn to move your arm rather than your wrist as much as you can, you should be fine then if avoiding carpal tunnel is your goal.  It's pretty helpful in the long run.  I eventually had to turn my sense down because higher sens movement is normally really wrist focused, more flicks of your wrist than there are long, smooth slides.

RJ is definitely more demanding in terms of movement though, shit loads of flicks and sudden angle changes.  Demo is much less, the movements are much more finite and in general is a lot more timing based, rather than super exact angles.

What sens range do you recommend for demo-jumping? And is that sens applicable to rj-ing as well?

Watch the tutorial, practice pogo, practice pogo, practice pogo, practice pogo and then finish map. Forget watching how to do jumps unless you have absolutely no clue, they're typically pretty obvious after looking at it.

Great! I guess I'll get to work then.

How are you possibly jumping at >250 ping? I usually teleport all around the place even on Jujump, and my closest server forces us to demo-jump on EVERY SINGLE MAP.
It is well known that I am from Australia and would frequently play on Jump iT. I learnt to deal with it by predicting the outcome...if you mirror EXACTLY what you would do in 0 ping; in 250 ping you will get similar results..not exact due to server side jitters or whatever.

As for the demo only server, that is most likely Bernie's server and must still be on 'Demo week'. There's plenty of American/European/Australian/Japanese jump servers...most offer both classes.

Putting all of that aside, what I only need to do is watch the tutorials on pogos, then watch previous runs on the jump maps and try to recreate the run myself?

My ping's too high for anyone to tutor me, what should I do?

what. What. WHAT! WHAT!
I jump at 250 ping, if your ping is higher than that on the server go find a closer server! (even then i could jump on 350 ping in chillout)

All of the skills involved are, Airstrafe, pogo, wall pogo and airpogo. Wall and floor pogo are more or less the same except more difficult. Aside from that, there is nothing else besides PRACTICE! the demo tutorial section has all of these tutorials.

How are you possibly jumping at >250 ping? I usually teleport all around the place even on Jujump, and my closest server forces us to demo-jump on EVERY SINGLE MAP. It's sad, really. I wanna jump so badly, but alas I am plagued with bad internets.

I've been looking for this sort of thing too. However, it seems sticky jumping jumps straight from air control to more advanced things like pogoing. Conductor's tutorials in the demoman tutorials section on the front page are quite useful for learning about pogoing and climbing as a demoman

Thanks for the heads up.

Jump Help / Where do I start Demo-jumping?

It seems like demo jumping is more advanced than rocket jumping, needing more timing and control, and it goes faster as well, so I would like to start learning howto demo-jump.

But all I see are demo-pogo tutorials and high level stuff. My ping's too high for anyone to tutor me, what should I do? Where should I go? What to learn first? Is there a "Ultimate demo-jumping tutorial" out there that's like the one the soldiers have?

I hope this community would be of some help to a newb demoman.

Thanks in advance :D

On a side note, which is more prone to carpal tunnel, rj or dj?

Which is more fun, more repetitive, easier, harder, gives you carpal tunnel, cooler?

Jump Help / Beginner Questions

Here's another beginner question, which map/maps are the best to learn speedshots/skipping, wallpogos and double/triple/quad walljumps(whatever you guys call it)?
