New Maps / Re: jump_silly
« on: March 09, 2012, 08:57:27 AM »
I really like the map tbh.  But I think, probably just me, 3 and 4 should definitely be swapped.  Unfortunately I am a baddie and can only make it to like jump 8 or 9 so I dont have to much feedback for ya =(.

So I download every jump video I pretty much come across (good for learning and I just enjoy watching them) and I notice that pretty much everyone uses different viewmodel values.  I personally use 93...which from the looks of it seems to be much higher then most peoples.  For me, 93 seems to help me with wall jumps better, it seems I am able to place my rocket better.  It also seems to help me with speed shots.

So, I am just curious what values you all used for your viewmodel?  Also does it help your RJing at all?  I also sometimes notice it differ from video to video of the same jumper, so I am just curious what people use and why.

I'm not good enough to actually be in the video jumping, but if anyone needs help from me for whatever reason I would love to help out somehow.

Jump Help / Re: Downclimbing into a pogo

One wall or two?

Both, can't do either.  I fail so bad at them that if I am on a map and get to a downclimb jump, I pretty much cannot advance further into the map.  Then I go watch a youtube video of someone completing the map and the next 3-5 jumps after the downclimb jump I feel like I could most likely do...I just can't get past the downclimb.

Also is "downclimb" the proper term?

Jump Help / Downclimbing into a pogo
« on: December 05, 2011, 06:19:26 PM »
I cannot do this for the life of me, I maybe managed to do it twice and it was surely by dumb luck.  I watched so many videos of raiin and wonderland and <insert another pro jumper here> and try to copy what they do but I just can't...does anyone have any tips or is it one of those things that I will just need to keep practicing at? because it seems like I am getting nowhere with it.

In response to what tron said, since me and him go way back in the bball world ( with me being better than he is at bball :P )

do you remember that one time when we were bballing, and i was backwards strafing and you got really fucking pissed. and you said the way i played was disrespectful to you. and then you banned me from IRC and talked a whole bunch of shit and then dodged the 1v1 and then eventually you showed up only to lose and ragequit within 5 minutes? LOL GOOD TIMES

this made me laugh =)

General Discussion / Script to jump alone
« on: August 29, 2011, 07:31:34 PM »
Anyone got the script that lets you run jump maps over a lan for some practice? I think I found it on these forums...I forget, I tried a forum search but didn't find it, checked stickies etc...

So, if anyone has that script that would be sexy.  Also maybe make a sticky thread detailing how people can jump by themselves for some practice.

Other Games / As a previous WoW player...

...should I get RIFT? do a lot of people here play it?  I know I am not very well known here, but I don't know anyone that plays RIFT so would be nice to have SOMEONE to talk to =P.

I hear its a WoW clone...but WoW is an DAoC clone, DAoC is an EverQuest clone...I really hate the "clone" excuse when it comes to MMO's lol, they will always share many similarities no matter what.

Anyways, do you think its worth trying out?

General Discussion / How did you ultimately get into jumping?
« on: March 21, 2011, 12:00:17 PM »
I used to play WoW, and I finally quit a few weeks ago because Cataclysm bored the living piss out of me (yet it was still very hard for me to quit...how pathetic).  Anyways, I have been playing TF2 for quite some time, mostly as a means of curing my boredom in between WoW sessions.  But I am the kind of guy that plays a handful of games, but needs one to be his "main" and since WoW was gone, I chose TF2.

A good friend of mine who I used to play another game with years ago, but I still keep in touch with, is one of the top competitive demo men in Europe.  So I wanted to try to pick his brain a bit and maybe get to a point where I could compete in TF2.  I know I would start off in a noob league/division at first, which is fine, I just enjoy playing the game.

He then asked if I knew how to wall jump...I said "Uh...I think so...?".  Come to find out, I didn't know dick about rocket jumping.  I could do height jumps (who can't) and thought that was the end of it, I only needed to know how to do that...man was I wrong.

He then explained to me about the world of "jumping" and told me about jump_pagoda (it was the only jump map he knew of off the top of his head).  I went to youtube and typed it in and watched Wonderland's video of his flawless run and was amazed at how complex RJing could be.  So I downloaded, loaded it up, was so ready to tackle my first jump map...I couldn't even get onto the first platform (didn't fully know how to wall climb) and thought to myself "Ok I need to learn to do this shit".

Watched some more Wonderland/tutorial videos, downloaded a map that I read was "great for noob practice" (forget the name tbh...adventure maybe?) and started learning.  I was always into "trick" aspects of source games for years.  Surf maps, climb maps, bhop maps etc, so naturally I was instantly sucked into the word of jumping.

So, I got back into TF2 rather heavily to try to get good enough to compete at whatever level, and ended up getting addicted to jumping lol.

So, how did you all ultimately end up learning/trying/getting addicted to jumping?

Jumping from New Hampshire USA.  Currently suck pretty bad at jumping but I get better each day.  In every game I have played I have always enjoyed the "trick" aspect of games (Whether surf maps, bhop maps, jump maps etc).  I recently quit World of Warcraft (Cataclysm just got so boring...after 4 years of playing I figured fuck it, time to move on).  After I quit I needed a new game to become my "main" game, and I chose TF2 and recently got into the Jumping aspect (before I would just pug it for a bit until I got bored and would play WoW).
